OSHA Staff Switch to Safety Helmets from Hard Hats

December 11, 2023 - by Safety and Health Magazine, National Safety Council - The agency notes that traditional hard hats have "minimal" side-impact protection and lack chin straps. "Without the straps," an OSHA press release states, "traditional hard hats can fall off a worker's head if they slip or trip, leaving them unprotected. Construction Contractor Association Releases Toolbox Talks on Suicide Prevention

September 26, 2023 - by Safety and Health Magazine, National Safety Council - New York — In light of statistics showing construction workers are almost four times more likely than the average American to die from suicide, a contractor association has created suicide prevention resources.

Each year, about 5,000 construction workers die from suicide, according to a press release from the Building Trades Employers’ Association. BTEA adds that five times as many construction workers die from suicide than from a work-related injury... [ more ]


OSHA Seeks to Protect Stone Countertop Workers from Lung Disease

National Safety Council Launches Program to Combat Overdose Deaths in Workplace

US Department of Labor Investigation of 28-year-old Worker’s Fatal Fall Finds Miami Gardens Roofing Contractor Failed to Follow Safety Requirements

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – A federal workplace safety and health investigation has determined a Hialeah roofing contractor could have prevented a 28-year-old employee's fatal injuries after a 40-foot fall through a commercial roof to a concrete surface below in Miami Gardens in March 2023 by following federal safety standards.
